This Corvette fuelie convertible represents the pinnacle of performance for 1963. The L84 fuel injected engine was Chevrolet’s most powerful offering that year with a factory rating of 360 hp. And when combined with a 4-speed transmission it delivers a superb classic Corvette driving experience. With plenty of recent work including a rebuilt fuel injection unit, this numbers-matching example accentuates that point.

Built in late February 1963, this refurbished C2 is finished in the fairly rare color of Silver Blue (code 912) which was only offered for two model years. While exact 1963 production numbers are unknown, fewer than 2,000 such convertibles were likely built. This one has been repainted and looks magnificent as does all the chrome. The white soft top is in very good condition as well. It gives the car a classy look and ties in well with the white stripe tires. The correct wheel covers and spare tire carrier are also present.

The entire drivetrain is original to the car. The engine is the legendary fuel injected 327ci 360hp package (L84). The block shows casting number 3782870 with a date of 2-12-63 (B 12 3). The stamping pad shows an assembly date of 2-15-63 with the correct RF suffix code. The pad also includes the matching partial VIN (3109623). Continuing down the drivetrain, the T10 4-speed transmission has the same partial VIN stamping of 3109623. This is followed by the CA code (3.36 ratio) rear end with an assembly date of 2-15-63.

Now all this originality is great to have, especially on a fuelie. But the real fun with this Corvette is to drive it! There is plenty of power, and listening to that engine while running through the gears with the wind rushing by will have you smiling all the way. Note the fuel injection unit was recently rebuilt by Jerry Bramlett and runs like new.

The Dark Blue interior is a perfect blend with the exterior and gives a sharper look than the typical black interior. It is in good condition throughout including the seats, carpet, door panels, and dash pads. The optional power windows work properly as do the headlight motors. The speedo, tach, gauges, dash lights, low/high beams, turn signals, horn, wipers, AM/FM radio, heater/defroster, and parking brake are all functional as well. Same with the courtesy lights which have been converted to LEDs. Even the clock works!

Mid-year fuelies have proven to be a good investment, and examples like this one can be hard to find. It is certainly a beautiful car with a numbers-matching drivetrain, but is also so much fun to drive! It really captures the spirit of these old Corvettes. Let this one show you what they are all about.
