Are you ready for the Hot August Nights, car show event? We are selling a 1965 Plymouth Belvedere 2 with a 440 big block engine. We believe the car to be an original 426 big block. My father purchased and refurbished it in 2015. He had it professionally restored and spent $11,000 in mechanic’s labor and parts (receipts available.) Excellent body, gorgeous brand new upholstery, shiny dent free chrome! He even added an aftermarket AC. Vintage stock radio works. He drove it briefly and then garaged it for the last ten years, due to health.
We have a good friend, who is a very experienced hot rod mechanic, going over the vehicle.
Here is his evaluation, so far:
” The engine appears to be a fresh rebuilt 440. The date stamp on the bottom of the block is 6-28-68. The heads are set up to run unleaded fuel with hardened valve seats installed. I believe the transmission to be a 727 Torque flite. The rear end is a MOPAR 8 3/4. I treated the engine as if it were brand new, since it had only been driven once in 10 years. I changed the oil, filter and coolant. I primed the oil pump properly and achieved 83 pounds pressure on a 1,200 RPM drill motor. I also oiled the cylinders. I also installed a high volume water pump and thermostat. Also a new Carter fuel pump and platinum sparks plugs. It has a MOPAR “purple” camshaft, as I could see the purple paint on it when I had the distributor out. It has been converted to an electronic ignition, so no more points to deal with. There is an aftermarket, custom aluminum radiator and dual electric fans. It is running a pair of vintage HOOKER Super Comp headers into 3″ pipes with an H pipe and Flowmaster mufflers, turned down just ahead of the rear end. The induction is the real deal. Cross ram intake with DUAL CARTER COMPETITION SERIES 500 CFM CARBURATORS. I also converted the car to right hand threaded wheel studs to greatly increase wheel options. It currently has ORIGINAL CENTERLINE CONVOPRO WHEELS and drag radials on rear. New front brakes and back brakes are good. New Billet Specialties lug nuts all around.New Platinum spark plugs and Accel 8mm spark plug wires. The after market gauges and lights all work. When the car was restored, all of the rubber weather stripping was replaced everywhere and it is PERFECT. The body is incredibly straight There are no dings. There a some minor chips that will be addressed. The underside is SUPER CLEAN and RUST FREE. The odometer says 61,618. The chrome is ding free. Body panel gaps are really good.
Interesting bit of information, go to eBay motors under parts and accessories and type in 1965 Plymouth Belvedere. A refrigerator/toolbox magnet will show up of this Plymouth Belvedere. The picture is from Mecum Car Auctions in Dallas Texas, Sept. 2014. $32,000 was the high bid but was not accepted. That was prior to the refurbishing and engine rebuild in 2015.โ
