While Chevrolet discontinued the full-size El Camino after 1960, Ford’s startling success with its smaller, Falcon-based Ranchero demanded a reply in 1964 from Chevy, this time based on the new intermediate A-Body Chevelle. Performance options including Chevy’s hot Mark IV 396 CI big-block V-8 engine and supporting items were also available on the El Camino by 1966. Delivering an ideal combination of attributes including utility, practicality, and the sporting, personal nature of the smaller El Camino cab/passenger compartment, the mid-1960s El Camino remains a unique gentleman’s hauler capable of carrying cargo and delivering supercar-worthy performance and looks.
Built at Chevrolet’s Fremont, California assembly plant, this exceptionally attractive 1966 Chevrolet El Camino sports its Body Tag-correct Red-on-Red color combination with just one repaint. Just 32,520 miles are indicated at the time of writing. Other highlights include a factory knee knocker tachometer and power windows. An AM/FM cassette stereo delivers the tunes. Upgraded modern braking is via a dual-circuit master cylinder, vacuum booster, and front discs. A set of iconic Cragar S/S wheels mounting BF Goodrich tires delivers the power to the road. A truly rare find with its outstanding, attractive
