A truly rare 1969 American Motors AMX is now procurable from Maxmotive’s Flagship Pittsburgh Showroom. This is the one to have too with the AMX 390 cu in 4-barrel V8, factory 4-speed manual transmission, and the rare and desirable red on red color combination. The engine room is nicely detailed and includes a set of headers that flow into a dual exhaust system complete with chrome tips. The interior is all factory stock, which is a great thing due to the excellent design. A big factory tach takes its rightful place next to the 140mph speedometer, and there are analog gauges for fuel and temp, along with the very elegant factory analog clock. Another distinctive highlight of the dash is a premium wood grain applique that contributes to the luxury feel of the cabin. In addition to the top option 390, this example features the “Go Package,” which adds such substantial hardware as the Twin-Grip differential, power front disc brakes, heavy duty suspension with sway bar, and heavy duty cooling. The car also features power steering with the original tilt column and steering wheel. The exterior paint is Matador red , and together with white stripes and the red interior, it’s a winning combination. The wheels are the correct Magnum 500s with trim rings, a favorite of the muscle-car-era. The AMX, or American Motors Experimental began as a concept car to showcase performance. It evolved into what is essentially a very attractive two-seat pony car, certainly a great concept itself and a great part of muscle car history. Indeed, it has many fans today.
