“Among legendary off-roaders, the Patrol is often forgotten, and it shouldn’t be” – Nissan News, September 2021
The Nissan News writer, Joel Stocksdale, went on: “…the Nissan Patrol has just as much history and ability as the other off-roaders we’ve mentioned (Jeep, Land Rover, Land Cruiser, etc). The first generation went into production in 1951, meaning this is the model’s 70th anniversary. It’s currently in its sixth generation, too. But part of why it’s perhaps not well-known in the United States is that only two of those generations were ever offered here: the second-generation featured here, and the current one, which is sold in the U.S. as the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX80. It’s also followed a similar trajectory as the Toyota Land Cruiser, going from Jeep-like machine to a plush passenger SUV, but with traditional body-on-frame construction and real, transfer-case-based four-wheel drive. The second-generation is a sweet spot as a collector car, since it’s not as bare-bones as the first-generation that was similar to a military Jeep, and it still has the charming classic style of its contemporaries like the first-generation Ford Bronco and the Toyota FJ40.”
Offered here is a second-generation 1969 Nissan Patrol in red over red-and-black. The SUV has been fully restored, re-powered, lifted, and upgraded for reliable all-terrain travel in comfort. Showing 97,579 miles currently-fewer than 1,900 miles per-year on average since new-this head-turning Patrol is ready for highly capable off-road service for years to come.
The exterior red paint on the all-steel body was professionally applied and the smooth, uniformly glossy finish shows very well. There are no imperfections in the paint and no dings or damage to any sheet-metal panel. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs of the SUV in the accompanying gallery.) A solid off-road front bumper (with tow hooks) in matte black is matched with black headlight trim, black entry-assist step, a black rear bumper, and a full-passenger-area, padded black roll bar. The windshield glass and all lighting lenses are clear and undamaged. Factory badging includes the N-i-s-s-a-n hood lettering, front-fender “Nissan Patrol” emblems, and “Patrol Nissan” rear graphic. Dick Cepek® wheels are mounted with oversize BFGoodrich® All Terrain T/A KO2 raised-white-letter tires.
The utilitarian interior is largely red-painted metal with black-painted metal floors in front, red-painted in the passenger-cargo area. Black-trimmed red vinyl upholstery in a vertically pleated design covers the split-bench front seat and the two center-facing rear bench seats. A 3-spoke chrome steering wheel faces a straightforward instrument cluster with a large speedometer and a similar-sized multi-gauge grouping set on a black insert in the red-painted dash. Three Equus® white-faced engine-monitoring gauges are mounted below the dash. The shift lever for the automatic transmission and the transfer-case selector lever are both floor-mounted.
Under the hood, the replacement 350-cubic-inch V8 wears brushed-metal valve covers, bare-metal manifold, and black, Edelbrock-branded, open-sided air cleaner assembly. The engine bay is clean, complete, and well organized. Viewed from below, the chassis and components are similarly clean and have been treated with a rust-inhibiting coating. The Dana® rear axle, lift-kit and suspension components, custom dual-exhaust system, and frame member protecting the transmission are all visual focal points.
The Patrol’s original data, identification, and operating-instruction tags remain mounted.

Amidst a sea of Jeeps, Land Rovers, Broncos and other off-road SUVs, this bright red Nissan Patrol stands out, not just for its color, but equally for the high caliber of its build. The next owner can expect lots of attention and more than a few even grudging compliments from the drivers of those more common 4WD vehicles.
