Bentley T
1969
beautiful condition ~ sympathetically restored example ~
This is a most desirable chrome bumper era Bentley T, finished in Masons black with blood red fine-lines to the body waist-lines. The Connolly interior is finished in rich St James red with black seat piping. The colour ensemble is very classic and also rare with the grille shell body colour-coded, which provides a continuous-flow look to the lines of the car.
The Bentley T (“T1 “) is the rare derivative of the Silver Shadow. It was the twin sister to the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and is differentiated by a Bentley radiator grille, mascot and “Flying B”. It has a slightly lower bonnet (hood) with different shaping in the sheet metal and is distinguished further with “Bentley” hubcaps and boot badging. Unique to these earlier Bentleys, is the fitment of “B” logos on the speedometer and brake pedal (a nice touch – something that was sadly deleted by Rolls-Royce in later years). Out of some 32,000 4 door Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow sedans produced, only 1,700 of these were Bentley Ts (that is only some 5% of the model series). Take into account that the number of remaining survivors would be considerably less and discount further those that are in poor condition, then this T1 Bentley may well be 1 out of only a few dozen examples in the US in this very fine condition.
This Bentley T is a stunning example that has recently been restored by the Park-Ward Motors Museum – a leader in Rolls-Royce restoration with over 45 years Rolls-Royce and Bentley experience. Indeed; “Masters of the Art”.
The exterior presentation of this Bentley T is simply lovely. The body is and always was, straight but underwent a complete “windows-out-all-fittings-removed” repaint. As a result, we have a paint finish that is of show standard and exceeds factory quality. Repainted in clear over base, the retail value of the repaint alone is some $30,000. As you would expect, the paint presents spectacularly.
Finishes are excellent with many new fitments to include rubbers, gaskets, lights, lenses and bright-work. Not replaced items such as mouldings, door-handles, grille and badges are excellent.
The interior of the car is in stunning presentation. The African burl walnut wood is spectacular having recently been redone by Park-Ward. All the wood; dash, console, door cappings and vanity mirrors are in “as-new” condition (for those who are not aware, this refinish process is some $3,500 alone). The rest of the interior is very clean and tidy and requires no attention. The Connolly hide leather was re-Connolised by us and displays a nice degree of patina (we prefer to keep original leather as opposed to replacing with new). The headliner is very clean and in original condition, which is a vinyl known as “Ambla” – only fitted to the early US spec SY (Shadow/Bentley) cars. The dash board and rear parcel shelf are factory excellent. Carpets are clean and tidy as is that in the boot (trunk).
*The radio fitted to the car is a rather mundane non-descript 80/90s unit. We would like to see a factory specification unit fitted but have not done so at this stage as we know some buyers might prefer current technology systems. Please enquire upon purchase.
Mechanically, the car is subject to Park-Ward Motors’ “Pre-delivery Commissioning” process. Something no-one else provides. Park-Ward Motors is America’s number 1 classic Rolls-Royce restorer and provider. We earned this reputation over some 45 years as a collector & restorer, knowing these cars better than most. We have EVERYTHING in-house. Trained Rolls-Royce mechanics, electrical experts, body & paint, interior trimmers, leather and wood restorers. Nothing is out sourced. Every car that we sell goes thru our workshop and ANYTHING that is needed is attended to. There are no “restoration budgets” set. We simply do what is needed to each and every car. We do every major and minor service, repair anything that is needed and basically do everything required as part of preparing the car for going back into regular use. This is not only limited to mechanical but operational features as well, eg; A/C is charged, windows and electricals are serviced (they tend to get slow when not used regularly). We also use this process to double check our own previous work. If we find something not right, we fix it with no short cuts. You get a Rolls-Royce from us with every service done and the car is ready to be shipped in “turn-key” status. We allow 21 days for this process. It may seem long, but we rather be conscientious and have you as a happy customer than to simply “get the car out to you fast”.
It is very important to note, this Bentley has NOT been “tarted-up” but been the subject of a very detailed restoration to maintain an original factory presentation. Anything repaired or attended to has been done so professionally and with pride & passion. The car is an extremely beautiful presenting example that is in advance of any Bentley T and is in excellent driver condition. It easily ranks a 10 out of 10 driver and show worthy.
~~ This is a significantly well-above average example of a Bentley T1. As a top-class driver condition example, restored by us, it will need absolutely nothing doing or spent on her. Given the unique presentation and condition of this classic and rare Bentley sedan, it is also show worthy and could be taken as-is to your next Rolls-Royce meet with great pride. ~~
